The Coalition for National Science Funding (CNSF) is an alliance of over 130 professional organizations, universities and businesses united by a concern for the future vitality of the national science, mathematics, and engineering enterprise. CNSF advocates to increase the national investment in the National Science Foundation's research and education programs in response to the unprecedented scientific, technological, and economic opportunities and challenges facing the United States.
The CNSF Steering Committee exists to advance the mission of the Coalition. The Steering Committee fosters communication among CNSF members, formulates and shepherds advocacy activities, and builds relationships with the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Science Board (NSB), Congressional offices and committees, relevant White House and Administration officials, and other stakeholders.
Steering Committee responsibilities include drafting and transmitting letters to Congress; holding meetings with Congressional offices; organizing and hosting Capitol Hill events; maintaining the CNSF website, social media, and membership records; recruiting new Coalition members; and planning the agenda for the Coalition's monthly meetings. The Steering Committee aims to be transparent in all that it does.
The Steering Committee does not have a fixed size. The committee strives to be small enough to foster good discussions and efficient decision-making, while incorporating representatives from across the different types of organizations that belong to the Coalition (including professional societies from a wide array of disciplines, universities of various institution types, higher education associations, and other organizations).
Steering Committee membership is reviewed periodically and members make an annual commitment to renew their participation. Steering Committee members commit to attending monthly planning meetings, participating in ad hoc meetings with Congressional offices and other stakeholders, and leading a major initiative for the Coalition such as one of our signature events or letters.
